Multiple Instances of Google Talk

Many of you should be knowing this. This trick (based on a parameter) helps you open multiple instances of your GTalk (Client/Software version) which basically is limited to a single instance. To override this, you will have to run Google Talk’s executable file (exe) with a parameter. You can do this in many ways – by directly passing the parameter or by creating a shortcut to Google Talk with its parameter.

Run Google Talk with the parameter “ /nomutex“.

or Modifying its Shortcut

You should have a shortcut either in Desktop or in Start Menu (Start->Programs)
Right-Click the shortcut and open its Properties
Choose the “Shortcut” Tab
In the Target text box, you’ll should be able to find its similar to this – “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe“ (with quotes)
Add “ /nomutex” (without quotes) so that it looks like – “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex(with quotes)
Click OK to close it
Every time you open using this shortcut, you’ll be presented with a new instance of GTalk.

or Using “Run”

Open Run (Start->Run)
If Google Talk is installed in Program Files in your Windows Drive, enter“%programfiles%\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex (with quotes) and press Enter
If Google Talk is installed in a directory other than Program Files, you’ll have to enter its full path. eg:“Drive:\FOLDER\googletalk.exe” /nomutex (with quotes) and press Enter
You’ll be presented with a new instance of GTalk.

or Creating a Shortcut

Find where Google Talk is actually installed
Right Click googletalk.exe and Choose “Create Shortcut” in its context menu
Open the Properties (right-click or ALT+RETURN) of the shortcut you created now
In the Shortcut tab, add a suffix “ /nomutex” so that it looks like – “..\…\….\googletalk.exe” /nomutex
